Congratulations to our State Cross Country competitors,

Matthew Southey and  Cameron Ellis

Yesterday, Thursday 18th July at Bundoora Park, both Matthew and Cam ran terrific races in a field of very talented competitors. In that result, we have a new STATE Cross Country Champion in our midst!

Cameron Ellis became the new Cross Country State Champion, winning the event in a time of 10 minutes and 24 seconds, blitzing the field in the final 500m and ahead of the next closest finisher by a full two seconds. Cameron has trained very hard over the past few years in his sport, learned a lot along the way, and his dedication to the sport has paid off. He will now compete at the National Athletics Competition on 24 August in Wollongong representing both the state of Victoria as well as St Francis Xavier Primary School. In addition, Cameron also trialled for Team Vic in the 1500m event back in May, finishing 2nd and qualifying for the team. He will compete at Nationals in this event in September in Darwin. To say ‘congratulations’ seems somewhat of an understatement but no less heartfelt. Very big congratulations to Cameron on his success, we are so very proud of your efforts and maturity with which you represent our school. Well done and best of luck at Nationals!

Interschool Sport ~ Winter Season

At the end of last term, our senior students finished up their Winter Season of Interschool Sport, having played six rounds against our district schools in AFL Football, Netball, Soccer, Lacrosse and Teeball. This year’s competition saw plenty of wins and losses on both sides as many of the schools were quite evenly matched. Our congratulations to our SFX teams who qualified for the grand final: Girls Soccer, Girls Netball and Lacrosse. The finals were all very close games in what was difficult conditions but students certainly worked hard on the day, representing our school proudly.  Advancing on to the Division Finals are Girls Soccer and Lacrosse! Wishing both teams good luck in the next round :)

Interschool Sport ~ Summer Season

Today marked the first round of our Summer Season in which we will again play six rounds against area schools in Basketball, Volleyball, Cricket, Softball and, for the first time ever, Hot Shots Tennis. Spectators are always welcome to join us - see the link to the fixture below to see where we will be playing each week as this changes. Please also keep in mind that as circumstances between schools arise, there may be late changes to this fixture. Your child and the school office are always a great source of up-to-date information!

SFX Athletics Carnival & Trials, 1500m Trials

Our senior school Athletics Carnival & Trials is very quickly approaching on Tuesday 29th July, 9:00 - 2:00, at Willinda Park. This is an opportunity for all students in Year 3-6 to experience all of the track and field events common to Little Athletics and Athletics programs ranging from discus, high jump and long jump to 100m, 800m runs and hurdles. The results from this day are used to determine which students will represent SFX at the District Athletics Competition later in the term. In addition, our school trials for the 1500m event, run separately, will take place in the same week, on Friday 2nd August, also at Willinda Park. These events will only go ahead weather permitting. In the case of a rainout, alternate dates have already been booked for the following week. Please keep your eye out for further details about this event via Care Monkey.
