Brunswick Secondary College's newly commencing Year 10 International Students - Huafang Mai, Menghan (Catherine) Dong and Can (Richard) Wang - were formally welcomed to Victoria at the International School Student Welcome Reception, held at Government House in March.

The event brought together students and educators from the Victorian government, independent and Catholic schools, from the higher education sector and senior Consular representatives.

The International Students enjoyed visiting and touring Government House Ballroom and Reception Rooms and also enjoyed a morning tea where they met with many other Victorian International Students.

Both the Governor of Victoria, the Honourable Linda Dessau, and the Parliamentary SecretaryJudith Graley, voiced their appreciation for the unique and valuable contribution that international school students make to Victoria’s broader cultural fabric and community.

Having international students working alongside local students enables young Australians to develop intercultural skills and the competencies to live and work all over the world, in global teams with global clients. Global literacies, intercultural understanding and language learning are valuable contributing factors, ensuring learners have the skills to succeed in life.

I was honoured to be invited to Government House to attend this event. I learnt a lot through this event and also felt lucky to study in Victoria. I will continue to work hard and try to get a good result at the end of Year 12.
