Senior Soccer in the Premier League

Year 7 Cricket

14 March saw the Year 7 boys head to J.C Donath Reserve for Division cricket.

The first two games were against Reservoir High and Preston. We won the toss and decided to bowl first in both of these games which proved to be the right call. The bowlers all pitched in and did their job, and a great partnership between Fergus Alm and Jack Dickason against Preston helped to start the day off with two wins from two games.

Coming into the last game of the day, it was "do or die". The pressure was on. A fiery opening spell from Marlow Lucas and a brilliant one-hand catch from William Smith kept Thornbury to a reasonable total of 45 from 10 overs. After a slow start, it was up to some Dougal Fraser magic, hitting 19 off one over to get the boys over the line and into regionals.

All of the players showed great sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the whole day and it was great to see.

Senior Boys Cricket – State Quarter-Final

The Senior Boys cricket side travelled to Bendigo to play Bendigo Senior Secondary College in the State Quarterfinal knockout Twenty20. Bowling first Bendigo skipped away to be 89 after 10 overs. Jack Oldfield bowled a tight spell to help peg back the momentum. Bendigo finished on an imposing 164. Northcote started well with Tom Sweetman hitting 24. Ned Goodwin and Connor Hastings steadied the innings with a crucial partnership through the middle. Ned scored a crucial 35. Some of the scenarios were 130 off 14 overs. 65 off 6 overs. 37 off 3 overs. 20 runs needed off the last over. Connor Hastings hit 2, 6, 2, 6 with some incredible hitting to finish on 70, being one of the best innings ever by an NHS student. . Unfortunately the boys fell 2 runs short after a brilliant comeback. State Quarterfinals is a great achievement and no less than the effort and ability of the team deserve.

Senior Soccer : Premier League

Due to the success of our Senior Girls Soccer team over the last few years, our school was invited to compete in the Senior Girls Premier League soccer 2023. We played 2 matches losing our first to Keilor College 3-2, and our in second was a  1-0 loss to SEDA College.  The team played really well considering we were mainly made up of yr 10’s in a senior competition.  Lily Sibillin and Emily Togneri both performed really well across both games and lead the team well.  A big thank you to our Ex Student Rosie Rodger for running training sessions at school and coaching the games.

Year 8 Tennis

Yesterday, eleven of our Year 8 students headed out to Oak Park Tennis Club, to play a mixture of doubles and singles games. The girls had some tough competition against Preston, however all 4 girls put up a good fight against William Ruthern and one both doubles games and the 4 singles games. The boys had some hard fought games as well against Lalor in particular however with a great fought final match, they finished up 3rd overall.  All players showed great sportsmanship throughout the day, never giving up and cheering their fellow school mates on.
