Student Services : Careers

An action packed Careers Day!

Careers Day at NHS was bigger than ever this year, and a fantastic success.

Our Year 10 students enjoyed wonderful presentations from 15 distinguished guest speakers from a variety of professions and industries, who gave our students valuable insights into different career pathways. A huge thank you to our presenters, many of whom were parents from our school community, for giving up their time to give enrich our students' career education.

Amy Rogers, Intensive Care Nurse, Royal Melbourne Hospital discusses how nursing in different contexts suits different personalities
Natalie Lambropoulos, Fabric Buyer and Coordinator, explains the journey of a garment from a seasonal colour palette presented at a Paris fashion fair, to a blouse available in local stores today
Emma Hunt, Executive Manager, Victorian Legal Aid explains the many pathways open to Law students

Also running today was our first ever Career Expo event. It was fantastic to have 42 exhibitors across tertiary education and many industry sectors, in an event which was attended by students in Years 10, 11 and 12.

Students were provided a unique opportunity to investigate careers and courses.  Many of the organisations attending today are very large employers, and provide career opportunities from entry level to very highly qualified roles. We hope that students were able to find out more about careers and courses that they perhaps hadn’t heard of before.

Well done to all the students who took the opportunity today to engage with our exhibitors.  The feedback from exhibitors was very positive overall, and they were impressed by the ambitions and ideas our students have for their future.

Congratulations to Remy Lawlor from Year 10, who won the MYOB major prize, after answering the riddle question correctly – Beats earphones !!

Congratulations Remy!
