AGTV German Poetry Competition 2026

For the third year running, Patterson River Secondary College hosted the AGTV German Poetry Competition Regional Finals. Students in Years 7, 8, and 9 competed against students from Mentone Grammar, Hillcrest Christian College and Gleneagles Secondary College for a place in the state finals. 

The first two students in each category go on to represent their school in the state finals in late August. In preparation for the competition, students worked hard to learn and practice a prescribed German poem before showcasing their skills by reciting it in front of two German-speaking judges.  

While waiting for their turn, students continued practicing and doing their best to manage their nerves and excitement. Participants then enjoyed a range of fun activities, snacks and drinks as a reward for their hard work and dedication.  

On behalf of the German Domain, we would like to congratulate all participants for their commitment, perseverance and pursuit of excellence.  A special congratulations goes to Raya K. who won Gold in the Year 8 category, Andrew H. who won Silver in the Year 8 category and Marlon H., who won Gold in the Year 8 Open category. 

What an amazing achievement to be one of the 7 students who qualify for the state final. A special mention to Kate M. for getting an Honorary Mention for her incredible rendition, which came close to getting a medal.  We are incredibly proud of all our competitors and look forward to seeing where their German language journey takes them next.
