Our Year 10 students have commenced their senior education and training (SET) plan interviews as part of the College's transition into senior studies. These interviews provide a purposeful opportunity to strengthen two key Marist characteristics: family spirit and love of work.

The SET plan process is far more than a subject selection exercise. It provides a valuable opportunity for students, parents, caregivers and the College to come together and discuss each young man's passions, strengths, interests, talents and aspirations. Through these conversations, we work in partnership to ensure that subject selections and learning pathways not only reflect a student's abilities and interests, but also support his personal goals, aspirations and future opportunities.

Parents and caregivers play a vital role in this process. Their guidance and encouragement help young men reflect on the relationship between their talents and their sense of purpose, while also considering the routines and habits required for success in senior school and beyond.

A topic that often generates discussion is the College recommendation that students dedicate approximately 2.5 hours each evening to homework, revision, assessment preparation and study, together with approximately six hours across the weekend for senior students hoping to obtain an ATAR. While these expectations may appear demanding, they reflect the increasing rigour of the senior years and the importance of establishing effective study habits.

The importance of informed pathway planning is also reflected in the opportunities currently being provided to our Year 8 and Year 9 students. This week, students participated in elective information sessions led by our heads of department, outlining subjects, pathways, assessment expectations and future opportunities within each learning area.

Students entering Year 9 in 2027 will select semester-based electives, while students entering Year 10 will choose two year-long electives that align with their strengths, interests and future pathway aspirations. Further information regarding subject selection procedures, timelines and available subject offerings will be provided to families in coming weeks.

Ultimately these processes reflect our commitment to walking alongside each young man as he discerns his gifts, explores possibilities and develops the habits required to flourish. Through a genuine partnership between home and school, we seek to ensure that every student approaches the senior phase of learning with clarity, purpose and confidence.
