Class

We can hardly believe that we are over halfway through Term 1. There has been a lot happening in the Class area, including the appointment of Mr Andrew Maddy as permanent Mathematics teacher!

This week we have the renovations to the greenhouse beginning. Thank you to our generous P&C for co-funding this project. Staff and students are excited to be able to use this valuable resource in General Plant lessons as well as Agricultural Science. On Thursday, the ATAR students will once again attend sessions run by external provider, Elevate, on improving study skills and developing time management.

To all students with outstanding OLNA, please remember to attend Mrs Packham's Prep sessions on Wednesdays and to work through the activities on the programme OLNA Support in your own time.

Finally, a gentle reminder to parents of Year 12 students to read through and discuss the SCSA declaration and permissions with your child. An email about this was sent last week. You need to discuss this with your child if they are under 18 before they can complete the online process that SCSA require.

Ms Annette Wells

Head of Curriculum

Students have been actively engaged in a variety of practical and academic learning experiences across Mathematics, Physical Education and Animal Production this term.

Animal Production

In Year 12 Animal Production, students have been exploring animal diseases and the importance of effective control strategies within agricultural systems. A major focus has been on Integrated Pest Management, where students examine sustainable methods for preventing and controlling pests and diseases while reducing environmental impact. Through case studies and class discussions, students are gaining a deeper understanding of how effective disease management supports animal welfare and farm productivity.

Physical Education

In Year 11 and Year 12 Physical Education, students have been developing their basketball and hockey skills through drills, skill development activities and small-sided games. These lessons focus on improving passing, shooting, ball control and teamwork, while also encouraging communication and game awareness on the field and court.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, Year 11 students have been studying linear relationships along with area and volume measurement, applying these concepts to solve practical problems. Year 12 students are currently learning about scatter plots and trend lines. As part of their current assignment, students are collecting and plotting data to estimate the cost of a vehicle, using trend lines to make predictions and interpret relationships between variables.

It has been great to see students actively participating and developing valuable skills across these subjects.

The 12 ATAR students have been learning about livestock and plant reproduction, and selective breeding. With a focus on plant breeding technologies including AI, Embryo Transfers, hybridisation and GM.

The students also went through the Gingin bull sale catalogue and using their knowledge on EBVs; while adhering to the school's breeding objectives, they selected a list of prospective bulls, one of which the school purchased last Thursday.
