On Thursday 6 August, our Year 11 and 12 VCE Art Making and Exhibiting students headed into the city for a day immersed in Melbourne’s vibrant arts scene.
Students visited the NGV and Buxton Contemporary, where they explored the contemporary art exhibition Poetry goes no further than language: A historical moment of art becoming art again. The exhibition gave students plenty to look at, discuss and think about as they experienced contemporary art outside the classroom.
The groups then split for some exciting behind-the-scenes experiences. Our Year 12 students toured the Victorian College of the Arts, getting a glimpse into what studying art at university could look like, while the Year 11 students took part in an art curating workshop and learned more about the thought, planning and decision-making that goes into putting an exhibition together.
It was a fantastic day of art, inspiration and discovery, giving students a greater understanding of the many different roles and possibilities within the arts industry. Most importantly, everyone had a great day exploring, learning and experiencing Melbourne’s art world firsthand!
