World's Greatest Shave

Highvale students and staff came together to support the World's Greatest Shave, raising funds and awareness for Australians impacted by blood cancer. The event saw an incredible level of participation from across the school, with students and staff eager to contribute to this important cause. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, Highvale raised an outstanding $3,500 to support the work of the Leukemia Foundation. This remarkable achievement reflects the compassion and community spirit that exists within our school.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Caleb W, Freya H, Ishaan K, Dineth D, Mr Chambers, and Miss Johnson for their willingness to participate and support this important fundraiser. We also thank everyone who donated, baked, volunteered, or purchased items on the day. Your contributions helped make the event a tremendous success and demonstrated the positive impact that can be achieved when our community comes together for a worthy cause.

Student Leadership Forum

During the term, a group of Highvale student leaders attended the Monash Schools Student Leadership Forum, joining students from schools across the region for a day of collaboration, discussion, and learning.

On Thursday the 6th of August, student leaders from Years 11 and 12 attended a cross-school leadership forum at Mount Waverley Secondary College alongside students from other schools across the Monash region, including Brentwood Secondary College and South Oakleigh College. Throughout the forum, we participated in a range of activities based around the ‘Burger Model’, where each part of the burger represented a different skill or quality important for effective leadership. Through engaging challenges, we explored skills such as quick thinking, communication, teamwork, problem-solving and prioritisation. One of the key ideas we explored was that there is no single definition of a good leader, as our different values, perspectives and communication styles can shape the way we lead. We also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with student leaders from other schools and hear about initiatives within their school communities, giving us ideas that we could potentially adapt and implement at Highvale. Overall, the forum was a great opportunity to develop our leadership skills, meet new people and gain different perspectives on leadership. Thank you to Mount Waverley Secondary College for hosting us!

Student Visit to Parliament

Recently, a group of Highvale students had the opportunity to visit the Victorian Parliament for the John Monash commemoration service.

On Friday the 7th of August, we had the opportunity to represent Highvale in the John Monash Commemorative service at Parliament House. Before entry, we were given blue ribbons to honour the legacy that Sir John Monash has established, and we got to enter areas limited to the public. inside, we listened to a variety of speeches that enabled us to learn more about the person that our council is named after. afterwards, we were able to network with other students from surrounding schools and gain further advice from the speakers after the service. We were inspired by the wonderous life stories from people within the military, leaders still actively serving their community, and then serenated with bagpipes and trumpets, courtesy of Scotch College.

Highvale's Got Talent

There was plenty of excitement and entertainment on display at this year's Highvale's Got Talent, as students took to the stage to showcase their diverse range of skills and talents.

A huge thank you to all students who participated, as well as the staff and student organisers who worked behind the scenes to make the event possible. A special shout out to our judges Mrs Weinbergs, Mr Chriso and Miss McCoy for some detailed feedback and scores.

After an impressive display of singing, dancing, band performances, stand-up comedy and everything in between Nathan Barus was our first-place talent with his beautiful rendition of Bruno Mars’ Risk it all.
