Yellow PLC Update

Term 4 has been full of exciting experiences, hands-on learning, and wonderful opportunities for our Yellow PLC students to explore, connect, and grow! It has been lovely to see our students continue to build their confidence, engage with familiar routines, and participate in new and exciting experiences in ways that are meaningful to them.
Since our last newsletter, we have enjoyed some special events and experiences, including our Father’s/Special Persons Day Breakfast, Footy Colours Day, and swimming. These experiences have provided opportunities for our students to participate in school celebrations, explore different environments, and develop their confidence and connections with others. It has been wonderful to share these special moments together!
English
This term, we have introduced our new mentor text, Dear Zoo. Students are exploring the different animals featured in the story (Elephant, Giraffe, Lion, Camel, Snake, Monkey, Frog, Puppy) and focussing on their sounds, sizes, movements, and actions. Through shared reading experiences, sensory exploration, songs, animal sounds, and hands-on activities, such as crafts and building zoos. These experiences provide opportunities to develop communication, listening, early literacy, and shared attention.
We are also looking forward to an exciting incursion in November with Wild Exposure! Students will have the opportunity to meet some native Australian animals and learn more about them. This will be a wonderful way to extend our learning about animals beyond the pages of our mentor text and encourage curiosity about the world around us.
Maths
In Maths, we have been exploring cause and effect, routines and non-routines, and the objects we encounter in our everyday environments. Through a variety of familiar and unfamiliar experiences students are developing their understanding of how things work, how routines help us throughout the day, and how our actions can create different outcomes.
We have also been exploring shapes and objects through practical, hands-on activities, such as matching patterns, observing changes, and same and different. Students are encouraged to interact with materials, investigate their properties, make choices, and discover what happens when they move, use, or manipulate different objects. These experiences support the development of early mathematical understanding, problem-solving, exploration, and awareness of the world around us.
Science
We have continued exploration of chemical reactions in science, with plenty of opportunities for hands-on investigation! Students have been exploring a variety of materials and textures, including wet and dry, rough and smooth, and discovering what happens when different materials are combined.
Through mixing, pouring, transferring, touching, and comparing, students are developing their curiosity and exploring how materials can feel, behave, and change. These sensory-rich experiences encourage students to investigate using their senses, observe cause and effect, and engage with scientific concepts in ways that are accessible and meaningful to them.
Health
This term, our focus in Health had been on health, hygiene, and safety in our everyday lives. Students have been exploring important routines and actions such as cleaning their hands, learning about healthy teeth, and practising safe walking.
We have also been developing our understanding of road, water, and sun safety. Through modelling, repetition, visual supports, and practical experiences, students are building familiarity with important safety routines and learning ways to look after themselves and others. These experiences provide valuable opportunities to develop communication, participation, and independence in everyday situations.
Looking Ahead
As we continue through Term 4, we look forward to sharing more exciting learning experiences, including our upcoming Wild Exposure incursion in November. We are so proud of the progress our Yellow PLC students continue to make. Whether they are exploring a new texture, responding to a familiar story, participating in a daily routine, or discovering what happens when materials are mixed together, every experience provides an opportunity to learn, grow, and celebrate individual achievements. We look forward to meeting with you for SSG’s later in the term and sharing all the achievements with you in the end of year reports.
Thank you for your continued support of the students and their learning. We look forward to finishing the term with more wonderful experiences, discoveries, and special memories together!
Warm regards,
Yellow PLC Team
