Wellbeing Corner
By Ryo Sugihara
Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy are the cornerstones of The Resilience Project (TRP). In this Wellbeing Corner edition, we are going to put a spotlight on E - Empathy!
What is Empathy?
Empathy involves recognising others’ feelings and perspectives and is practised through kindness, compassion and curiosity. Developing empathy fosters deeper connections, increases our likelihood of acting kindly, and helps us experience positive emotions.
Within our school learning we also connect Empathy to our School Value – Global Empathy. We make links particularly in our Inquiry learning, as we explore perspectives of various people around the world, their cultural and religious beliefs and experiences and other diverse factors that build out personal identities. In doing so, we develop the student’s intercultural capabilities and strengthen their personal identities within a diverse and rich community. Empathy is more than just being kind and helpful – it’s about expanding our perspectives and worldview to deeply connect with ourselves and others.
