National Simultaneous Storytime is a special event where children, parents, and teachers across Australia read the same book at the same time. This event is held annually and brings together schools, libraries, and early learning centres to share a joyful reading experience. Each year, an Australian children’s book is selected, to be read simultaneously. This helps to highlight the importance of storytelling and promote a love of reading from an early age.
This shared experience supports the development of literacy skills, imagination, and confidence in young readers. It also creates a strong sense of connection, as children take part in a national event that happens simultaneously. By engaging in National Simultaneous Storytime, children are encouraged to see reading as fun, meaningful, and something they can enjoy together with others.
The Australian children’s book that has been chosen this year is ‘Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller’ by Adam Jackson, Adrian Lloyd and Jake A Minton.

This text will be used across Prep to Year 6, with learning experiences tailored to each year level. In classrooms, it will also be used as a mentor text to support deeper learning. This may include explicitly unpacking key vocabulary, making connections between the text and students’ own experiences, other texts, and the wider world, as well as exploring characters, themes, and messages through discussion to strengthen comprehension and critical thinking.
We are looking forward to National Simultaneous Storytime which takes place on Wednesday 27th May 2026 at 12:00pm.
