Principal's Report
By Frank Catalano
Dear Members of the Glen Waverley Primary School Community,
I trust all is well with you and your family and welcome to this fortnight’s newsletter where so much is shared about our wonderful school.
As per usual, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on 9802 9938 or via email at frank.catalano@education.vic.gov.au
I hope all our school mums had a fabulous Mother’s Day and the memories will be cherished for many years to come. May I also take this opportunity to thank the numerous parents who assisted with our Mother’s Day stall too as your time and effort are appreciated immensely.
In this fortnight’s newsletter, I thought that I would share two poems that acknowledge the influence and importance of mums:
Mum, you help me every day,
You guide me as I learn and play.
You make me smile, you make me laugh,
You’re my favourite by a mile and a half!
Roses are red, violets are blue,
There’s no one kinder, Mum, than you.
You help me learn, you help me grow,
And I just wanted to say hello—
And Happy Mother’s Day too!

At our school, we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all students. As part of this commitment, and for the second year, we are implementing the Stand Up Project, which is an initiative designed to prevent bullying and promote positive relationships across our school community.
Through the Stand Up Project, students are supported to recognise different forms of bullying and understand the impact these behaviours can have on others. They are encouraged to “stand up” in safe and appropriate ways, whether that means seeking help, supporting a peer, or taking positive action when they witness unkind behaviour. A strong focus is placed on developing empathy, resilience and a shared sense of responsibility among students. We refer to the children who do standup as Upstanders and those who select not to as Bystanders. The aim is for everyone to be an Upstander!
The program is delivered through a range of engaging learning experiences, including the Year 5 and 6 Stand Up Leaders delivering lessons to the younger classes, role-play scenarios and whole-school wellbeing activities. It also connects and promotes student leadership and peer support opportunities that empower the children to take an active role in promoting a positive school culture whilst simultaneously,
The Stand Up Project aligns closely with our broader wellbeing priorities, including the Respectful Relationships framework, and supports our ongoing work to ensure every child feels safe, valued and respected at school.
Thank you and well done to all our Stand Up leaders and we look forward to all of the children learning about the importance of being an Upstander!

Bavitran (Year 2) loves practicing and competing in Karate tournaments. Recently he participated in the Kobe Osaka, Victorian Karate League at the Springers Leisure Centre in Keysborough and I am extremely proud to report that Bavitran received a bronze medallion in Kata which is demonstrating different routines and moves. Well done and congratulations Bavitran, we look forward to hearing more about your karate endeavours in the future!
