Reading and Viewing

Reading comprehension will be a focus this term and students will be expected to answer literal, inferential and evaluative questions based on a text. They will blend, segment and manipulate phonemes in one-syllable words, and use knowledge of letters and sounds to read consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words. They will read high-frequency words and identify boundary punctuation when reading.

Students are expected to continue to read their take home books every night and continue to learn to read the high frequency words that are sent home.

Writing

Students will be encouraged to experiment with punctuation when writing and begin to use full stops and capital letters correctly. They will continue to have focused handwriting sessions to assist them to learn to correctly position the letters on the dotted thirds and become consistent in their correct letter formation. When writing, students will use words, phrases and punctuation, including capital letters and full stops, from familiar contexts and texts and from their learning. Our writing genres this term will include recounts of events, written retells of stories and simple observational reports.
