MATHS MATTERS AT MPS

Welcome to the first of our newsletter pages which we hope will encourage families to focus on mathematical thinking and learning whilst having fun!

Milo from Year 2, Harvey & Aara from Year 3, Anna & Charlie from Year 4, Tess & Eden from Year 5 and Henry & Jude from Year 6 are providing the tasks for this initiative. They will provide you with interesting facts, engaging problem-solving tasks and some mind-blowing challenges. They hope that families and students will work together on these and have fun as they look for multiple approaches to solving problems. Solutions will be shared in the next fortnight’s newsletter.

Warm Up Task:

Can you list 20 or more maths concepts/topics represented in this image?

  1. School starts at 8:30am. It takes me 10 minutes to eat my breakfast and 15 minutes to walk to school. What is the latest time that I can start eating my breakfast if I want to get to school exactly as the bell rings for the start of the school day?
  2. Our class was having a pizza party. We ordered 3 big pizzas. Each pizza is cut into 8 slices. If there are 20 students in the class and everyone eats one slice, how many slices will there be left for the teacher?
