Cross Country Carnival

We are looking forward to the School Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday 22 April, which promises to be an enjoyable afternoon of physical activity and school spirit.

 

Students are encouraged to continue their training over the school holidays in preparation for the event.

 

A map of the course is available on the Sports Hall noticeboard and attached below.

The course follows the same route as 2025 and is approximately 3.5km in length. All students are welcome to run or walk the course on the day.

Students interested in trialling for the school team to attend the District Cross Country Carnival should sign up via the Sports Hall noticeboard or digitally through the link here

 

These students will start at the front of the field on carnival day.

District & Regional Sporting Nominations

A range of District and Regional sporting opportunities are currently available. Details are posted regularly via DayMap notices. Students should check notices daily.

Nomination Process:

  • Discuss suitability with HPE staff in the Sports Hall staffroom
  • Complete the online nomination form via the QR code provided
  • Once nominations close, West District will forward trial documentation. Completed forms must be returned via email to Mr Moran (dmora13@eq.edu.au) or Mr Hottes (thott4@eq.edu.au)

Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund (SESF)

The Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund (SESF) supports emerging athletes aged 10–18 who are experiencing financial hardship and have been selected to represent their state or Australia at a National Championship endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission.

Key Information:

  • Scholarship value: $1,000
  • Applications for 2026 are now open
  • Applicants must meet SESF eligibility criteria

Eligibility includes:

  • Selection to represent state/territory or Australia in an eligible sport
  • Enrolment in an Australian school
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency
  • Demonstrated financial hardship

Futsal – Met North Regional Championships

The energy was high in Week 9 as our futsal teams competed in the FQ School Futsal Met North Regional Championships at South Pine Sports Complex.

Following three focused training sessions across Weeks 6–8, students arrived well prepared to compete against some of the region’s strongest school programs.

U15 Boys:

The U15 Boys competed in a challenging pool, finishing 6th overall. They delivered strong performances against established futsal schools, demonstrating resilience and steady improvement.

U15 Girls:

The U15 Girls delivered an excellent campaign, finishing 3rd overall. Strong wins over Genesis Christian College and Albany Creek State High School highlighted their teamwork, composure, and attacking play.

Opens Boys:

 

The Opens Boys finished top of their group, displaying strong tactical awareness, quick ball movement, and defensive organisation. Their tournament concluded with a competitive knockout match against Aspley State High School.

Program Development:

  • Development of game understanding
  • Improvement in individual and team performance
  • Building habits that extend beyond sport

This tournament represents a positive step forward for our futsal program. The effort, commitment, and sportsmanship shown by all players was commendable.

Regional Swimming Results

Congratulations to Zara B, Ben C and Aiden M on their outstanding performances at the Regional Swimming Trials.

Zara B:

  • 200m Freestyle – 9th (7.5 seconds personal best improvement)
  • 200m Backstroke – 3rd (8.5 seconds personal best improvement)

Ben C:

  • 50m Freestyle – 11th (25.49, close to personal best of 25.44), narrowly missing the final
  • Met North Relay Team – Silver (Medley Relay), Gold (Freestyle Relay)

Ben has now concluded his competitive swimming career, finishing on a strong note with his relay achievements.

Aiden M:

  • 100m Fly Prelims 1:01.75 
  • 200m Medley Relay (3) 1:58.00 
  • 50m Fly Prelims 25.30
