Wellbeing Hub #2
Carla Sampaio, Guidance Officer - Year 8 and 11
As we approach the Easter break, we would like to remind families that support is available within our local community. Several community organisations and church-based groups across Brisbane provide food hampers, pantry items and practical support for families who may need a little extra help during the holiday period.
If your family is experiencing financial pressure or would benefit from support, the following services may be able to assist:
These services aim to provide practical support in a respectful and confidential way, ensuring families have access to food and essential items over the Easter holiday period.
If you would like assistance connecting with any of these services, please contact The Gap SHS Wellbeing Team. We are happy to support families with referrals or help you access local community resources.
We encourage families to reach out early so support can be arranged before the Easter break.
At The Gap State High School, we recognise the valuable role that external providers play in supporting students’ learning, wellbeing, and development. Collaboration between families, schools, and external professionals can lead to more effective and tailored support for each student.
As part of an external provider’s process, schools may be asked to supply information about a student’s current presentation, progress, functioning, and support needs. Given that this information is often sensitive and may require specific administration protocols, our school follows a best-practice approach when responding to such requests.
How to Make a Request
Parents and carers can initiate a request by emailing: wellbeinghub2@thegapshs.eq.edu.au
In response, the school will provide two required documents:
Both forms must be completed and returned before any information can be shared.
Consent and Privacy Requirements
The Department of Education requires written consent before any student personal information can be used, recorded, or disclosed to third-party individuals or organisations. Without this consent, the school is unable to proceed with requests.
Consent can be withdrawn at any time in writing by emailing the school.
Any tests or questionnaires must be provided in paper form. At this time, online assessments cannot be completed as they breach the Department of Education policy around storing information offshore.
Processing Time and Communication
Please allow up to four school weeks for requests to be processed. This timeframe ensures that requests are managed carefully and by the most appropriate staff member.
To support staff workload and ensure accuracy, requests should not be made directly to teachers. Instead, the centralised process allows the school to allocate the task appropriately and maintain consistency in responses.
Once completed, the documentation will be sent directly to the external clinician, and parents/carers will be notified.
Supporting Student Outcomes
To assist the school in providing the best possible support, families are encouraged to share a summary of results or copies of any reports produced by the external provider.
External providers offer an important service, and strong collaboration between the school and provider can significantly enhance outcomes for students.
