Spring is slowly making a welcomed entrance, and this time also signals the closing in on the final school-based tasks for our year 12 students and the beginning of the final commitment to full attendance to ensure that learning is a high priority for all Year 12 students.
For many, there are still School Assessed course work to undertake for semester two and to ensure that all outcomes are satisfied. Students that have yet to complete some final tasks from Unit 3 are being provided ‘Redemption’ sessions to assist with making sure that all learning tasks are finalised and each Area of Study has been completed.
Real Industry Job Interviews
Since 2011, the Real Industry Job Interviews program has been offered to schools in the Hume and Whittlesea regions through the Hume Whittlesea Local Learning and Employment Network (HWLLEN) and funded by the Whittlesea Youth Commitment. Real Industry Job Interviews has gained widespread acclaim with a broad range of stakeholders and aims to improve young people’s employment application skills and interviewing techniques.
Students are assisted with their preparation for a self-selected job vacancy, for which entry level jobs are strongly encouraged. Students prepare an application letter, a current resume, and responses to a Key Selection Criteria. These documents are submitted to the events team at the HWLLEN who are responsible for passing them on to a range of volunteers from the Industry and Community sectors for review and comment.
Following interviews, these forms with written feedback from the volunteers are returned to our teachers as a means of providing further discussion points for further consultation with individual students. These steps are set out as part of Unit 4 WRS, Outcome 2, Area of Study 2: Portfolio Presentation.
Interim Reports
The Year 10 & 11 students have also been busy completing semester two tasks. Hopefully as parents and care givers, you can access the mid-semester Interim reports and take the opportunity to have conversations with your child to reflect upon their progress to date.
VET
Our current Year 10 and 11 students have finalised their VET enrolments for 2027, and all students should now be placed in the course of their choosing. This is a great outcome for students moving into Year 11 and 12 in 2027.
The Carers Team have worked hard this term with VET enrolments and SWL follow up sessions to ensure all students are fully engaged in our 5-day program. Our PLSC carers leader, Sarah Horner has worked tirelessly across the college with our students, particularly with our Year 12 students, having individual tertiary counselling sessions discussing all possible pathway options, such as full-time work, apprenticeships and of course post-secondary course options.
We continue to support all our students as we near the close of Term 3. Wishing every family a restful break over the holiday period and we look forward to a busy but productive Term 4.
