Principal's Message

Sonia Goodacre - Acting Principal

As we come to the end of another productive term, I want to congratulate and thank our students and staff for their hard work and dedication.

Throughout this term, our classrooms have been hubs of deep learning and collaboration. Our senior students, particularly our Year 12 cohort, have shown dedication as they approach their final learning tasks. All year levels have been working on group tasks as part of the curriculum and we have celebrated many social awareness issues through events such as Bullying No Way week and Wear it Purple Day. We also had whole college presentations with Crime Stoppers on the 31st of August and the Pat Cronin Foundation -Violence is never OK! on 21st July.

As an applied learning college that is focused on vocational learning opportunities for our students, our programs are developed around the Five Pillars of Applied Learning.  These pillars are motivation, applied learning practices, student agency, a student-centered flexible approach and assessment practices that promote success. In an effort to integrate the pillar of “applied learning practices” we aim to ensure that our students have multiple opportunities each term to work together and also take their learning beyond the four walls of their classroom. This term has certainly been no exception, as all classes have enjoyed being out in the community.

Our year 12s participated in the Real Industry Job Interviews on 8th September. They all looked wonderful dressed in their business attire and feedback was that they did a great job during the interview process they have also enjoyed an incursion with the Big Group Hug.

Our Year 11s have participated in the STEM pathways incursion with RMIT, Youth Law Guest Speaker and excursions to Lalor Community Garden, Melbourne Zoo, Immigration Museum Excursion and the RSPCA.

Year 10s have had multiple visits to Whittlesea tech school focusing on the Power of Podcasting.

In addition to the applied learning opportunities that are organized as part of the VCE VM program, students are also studying the VET program and are strongly encouraged to attend their weekly Structured Workplace Learning (SWL).

These opportunities form a vital part of our program.

The end of the term brings an opportunity for students and their families to reflect on their learning through their Interim Report and make plans for any improvements needed in the final term of the year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for making me feel so welcome over the past 2 terms and let you all know that I have been appointed as the Acting Principal until the end of Term 1 next year.

I wish everyone a safe, relaxing, and refreshing school holiday break. We look forward to welcoming all students back for a successful and rewarding Term 4.

Warm regards,

 Sonia Goodacre
