On Friday 8th of August, the Junior and Senior school captains along with Ms. Valentine and Ms. Weinbergs attended the Monash Commemorative Service at the Parliament House.
The annual Sir John Monash Commemorative Service, organized by the Spirit of Australia Foundation, is a ceremony held at the Legislative Assembly Chamber, Parliament House in Melbourne. This service was to honour the Australian figure, General Sir John Monash. Monash was a brilliant WWI general ,engineer, and nation-builder and was known for shaping modern Australia through infrastructure and education, and for his smart battle strategies.
The school leaders were fortunate to be selected as only a small number of schools in the state are chosen to attend this event. It was an enjoyable experience to watch the service and participate in the commemoration of General Sir John Monash. The service included speeches, wreath-laying, and moments of reflection to recognize Monash’s enduring impact on the nation. The leaders and the teachers spent time after the service to speak with other important and inspirational figures of Australia and connecting with representatives from other schools. This made the day not only commemorative but also a valuable opportunity for building connections.
Overall, attending the service was an honour and a reminder of the importance of remembering those who have shaped Australia’s history. We felt proud to have been part of an event that honoured such an important figure and brought schools and leaders together. It was a day of respect, learning, and connection that I will remember for a very long time!
