At the beginning of Term 3, our Year 11 Physics students embarked on an exciting excursion to the Victoria Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC) at Strathmore College.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to operate a real-life radio telescope, capturing glimpses of the universe beyond what the naked eye can see. They worked alongside an astrophysicist and educators to investigate cosmic anomalies, forming credible hypotheses based on their observations.

The program also featured a hands-on lesson on how scientists analyse emission and absorption spectra to study celestial objects. This engaging activity not only deepened students’ understanding of astronomy but also demonstrated how astronomers use these techniques to investigate stars, nebulae, black holes, and other wonders of the universe.

The excursion was an inspiring and memorable experience, offering students both valuable scientific skills and a glimpse into possible future careers in physics, astronomy, and space science.
