We are now well into Term 3 and I am pleased to share some of the wonderful events and developments that have taken place at Highvale Secondary College over the past few weeks.

Athletics Carnival

On Thursday 31 July, our Athletics Day was held at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track. It was a fantastic day filled with energy, competition and community spirit. Congratulations to all students for their participation, and to Bunjil (Blue House) for taking out the win. A special mention goes to those who broke long-standing records in the boys’ long jump and girls’ high jump – an outstanding achievement! Thank you to our sports coordinators, Adrian Schmid and Phil Tawa, and to all staff for making the day such a success.

Course Counselling and Subject Selections

Over the past few weeks, Year 9 and 10 students and their families have been involved in course counselling to support their subject choices for 2026. These conversations are an important step in helping students make informed decisions about their pathways. It was wonderful to see so many parents engaged in this process. A big thank you to Nicole Wilson, our Leading Teacher – Pathways and Transitions, for leading improvements to the process this year.

Leadership Development

This term we began a new leadership coaching program for our senior leadership team, working with experienced coach and former principal, Vicki Forbes. The program aims to strengthen our leadership capacity, ensuring we are well-placed to deliver on our School Strategic Plan goals. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have across the college.

Curriculum Day – Professional Learning

On Friday 1 August, staff participated in a Curriculum Day focused on redeveloping and documenting our curriculum to align with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0. A key focus was ensuring consistency in the way we develop learning intentions and success criteria. Our staff worked collaboratively and productively, and we are excited about the benefits this will bring to teaching and learning across the college.

Community Centre and Facilities Update

It is fantastic to see our Community Centre (Theatre and Gym) and tennis courts 3 and 4 back in use following recent works. Construction has also begun on resurfacing tennis courts 1 and 2 with a new synthetic surface, which we anticipate will be ready for students in Term 4.

Vivi – Enhancing Teaching and Learning

We are currently trialling the Vivi wireless screen mirroring system across the school. Vivi allows teachers and students to share their screens wirelessly, making lessons more interactive and engaging. Staff feedback has been very positive, and we look forward to exploring how this technology can further support teaching and learning.
