In the P-2 area this week students have continued to learn all about manipulation of materials. Firstly, we looked at how rainbows are made and how we get the 7 colours . We made a walking rainbow, followed by a candy and milk rainbow. We finished with the beautiful book, 'How to catch a rainbow', written by Naomi Jones. This week students explored bubbles and completed a circuit of bubble acitivites. They had a wonderful time.

In the 3-4 area this fortnight we have continued to learn about Plant and Animal Life cycles. Students have been tracking their plants growth each week. This includes writing a brief entry about any changes, measuring the growth and drawing a image. Students have also been busily researching the life cycles of a range of animals.

In the 5-6 area this fortnight we have been looking more closely at applied force and tension, applying these back to Newtons Laws of Motion. In week Three, we looked at the role of robotics and force. Students made their own Robotic hand where they had to use applied force to control and fingers to pick up items. In week Four, students looked at the role of water and air pressure, as a force. Students designed and tested water rockets. This was super fun. These flew up to 30 meters in the air.

What a wonderful fortnight of learning in Auslan! The students have been busy building their signing skills through lots of fun, interactive activities and games.

We have learnt the rules of fingerspelling and had great fun fingerspelling our own names. Students are building their skills and confidence in using fingerspelling to ask questions and communicate with others. Nursery rhymes have helped us strengthen our knowledge of farm animal signs, while we have also learnt the names of classroom objects and practised how to ask for help at school.

Our learning has been filled with games, including Simon Says, Charades and Memory, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to practise their new signs while having fun together. The students have also been fantastic helpers when reading picture storybooks, adding Auslan signs to familiar words and bringing the stories to life in a whole new way!

All classes have begun learning the Australian National Anthem in Auslan and are excited to present it during Friday assembly. Each class will have its own week to perform, providing a wonderful opportunity for students to practise their new skills, build confidence and share their learning with our school community.

It is truly wonderful to see the curiosity, enthusiasm and willingness our students bring to every lesson. They are embracing new challenges, stepping outside their comfort zones and having a go, even when something feels unfamiliar. Their growing confidence and excitement for learning Auslan are a joy to see. Every new sign is another step towards building communication, connection and inclusion within our school community. What a gift!

The Grade 1/2s listened to the story "Hey Little Ant" and then created an ant artwork of their choice. It was wonderful to see so many different responses to the text. Students also learnt about sculptures and created their own 3D paper sculptures, with some truly imaginative results.

The 3/4 students have painted their own triptychs, which are currently on display in the BER and look fantastic! They also had a great time participating in a paper square challenge, where they were each given a paper square and were asked to alter this in whatever manner they liked (folding, tearing, cutting, layering etc.) using only a glue stick and scissors. It was wonderful to see so many creative ideas on display and the students thoroughly enjoyed the open ended nature of this activity.

Last week the 5/6 students began a weaving project called "Hot Dogs and Cool Cats." Last week they made their own cardboard looms and this week they began to weave either a small hot coloured blanket (red, yellow, orange, brown) or a cool coloured blanket (blue, green, purple, pink). Students enjoyed the challenge and soon got the hang of it. It was great to see them all showing pride in what they had created! Next week they will continue to work on their blankets and then move onto the next step of the project. We are very much looking forward to seeing them completed!
