Year 5/6 News

Numeracy
In Numeracy this fortnight students have been learning to read and plot coordinates on a Cartesian plane. They have practised identifying the horizontal and vertical axes and using ordered pairs to locate points accurately. Through hands-on activities, students are applying their understanding to describe positions and developing their confidence with mathematical language and spatial reasoning.
A Visit From our Local MP Sam Birrell
Last week our Grade 5/6 students welcomed Sam Birrell MP to LCS for an informative chat about federal politics and how Australia’s system of government works.
The visit connected with our Civics and Citizenship unit, helping students deepen their understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the federal government and how elected representatives serve their communities.
During the discussion, Sam answered students’ insightful questions, spoke about the electorate of Nicholls and shared what matters to him in his role as a local representative.
Puberty Chat
We were very fortunate to have Lucy Gibson from the Lockington Bush Nursing Centre drop into 5/6 to lead students in an informative session about puberty. Students explored the physical and emotional changes that occur as they grow, with opportunities to ask questions in a supportive and respectful environment. The session helped students understand that everyone develops at their own pace and highlighted the importance of personal hygiene, wellbeing and seeking support from trusted adults.
Enjoy your weekend,
Chris & Trish
