Literacy

Our mentor text this fortnight has been House for Luna. Students explored the text and illustrations to develop a range of comprehension skills. They focused on making plausible predictions, exploring character traits, and examining how characters’ feelings change and develop throughout the story. Students also used evidence from the text to justify their thoughts and opinions.

In writing, students have continued to explore the narrative genre. They investigated ways to incorporate descriptive and engaging vocabulary to add detail and bring their writing to life. Students also explored how stories can be written from different perspectives, considering how a change in perspective can influence the way a story is told.

Numeracy

In Maths, students have been exploring chance through a range of hands-on experiments and activities. They have been describing the likelihood of different events occurring, using terms such as certain, likely, unlikely and impossible. Students have also investigated dependent and independent events, exploring how events can influence one another. Through conducting and discussing chance experiments, they have observed variation in outcomes and developed their understanding of why results may differ from one experiment to another.

Students have also worked collaboratively in small groups to plan, design and create their own games involving chance.

Inquiry

In Music, students have explored and discussed the importance of music in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples culture. They learned how music plays a significant role in sharing stories, history and knowledge, connecting people to Country and community, and bringing people together through singing, dancing and ceremony. Students have also explored different music genres, learning to recognise and describe how each style can be identified by its instruments, rhythms, lyrics, themes, vocal styles and distinctive sounds.

In Geography, students have explored the continents and oceans, developing their understanding of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. They have also investigated famous human-made landmarks from around the world, learning about their unique features, historical significance and importance to different cultures.

Sovereign Hill Camp

Sovereign Hill Camp is taking place next Wednesday to Friday, and it promises to be an exciting and memorable experience for everyone involved. Students will have the opportunity to explore the historic gold rush, learn about what life was like during the 1850s, and take part in fun and educational activities. It will be a great chance to spend time with friends, discover new things, and create lasting memories. We are looking forward to an enjoyable adventure filled with history, learning, and fun!
