Book Week 2026
A Spectacular Celebration of Books!
What a wonderful Book Week Parade we had! The festivities opened beautifully with our Primary Choir, who set the scene for a fantastic celebration of books, reading, and imagination.
It is always such a pleasure to see our students arrive in their chosen outfits, and we are continually amazed by the creativity and thought that goes into so many of the costumes. Seeing the students proudly bring their favourite book characters to life is one of the highlights of Book Week.
As always, our Year 6 Leaders and Director of Primary, Mel Sluyters, did an outstanding job bringing ideas and departments together, making the parade appear effortless and a joy to watch.
Our Great Book Swap is continuing this week, and we are incredibly grateful for the many wonderful book donations from our families. We will provide an update in the next edition of The View with the final amount our school has raised for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Book Week in Secondary
Books have a way of bringing people together. They allow us to explore completely different worlds, experience stories from different perspectives, discover new ideas and, sometimes, see a little bit of ourselves in a character or a story. That is what makes celebrating books so important.
We hope that Book Week has reminded everyone that reading and storytelling aren’t just things we do for school. They can be a way to escape, imagine, create, connect and discover something completely new.
This year we held a short story writing competition from Years 5 - 10. Students were given prompts to choose from, and then wrote a story based on their chosen topic. It takes courage and creativity to share something that you have written, and we were so impressed by the effort and imagination that went into the entries. Every story was different, and that is what made the competition so exciting. We hope that everyone who entered feels proud of what they created, regardless of the result.

Secondary students who chose to wear a costume had the opportunity to be judged by the curriculum leaders. There were a lot of amazing costumes, and it was clear that people had put a lot of effort into creating them.

We want to thank all of you for making Book Week what it was. Events like this are only successful when people choose to participate, get involved and have fun with them. Whether you swapped a book, entered the writing competition, dressed up, talked about your favourite books, or simply enjoyed seeing everyone else participate, you helped create the atmosphere that made this week so memorable.
A very special thank you goes to Ms Hill and Ms Parker, who put so much time and effort into making the Great Book Swap happen. From organising books and helping with the practical side of things to making sure everything ran smoothly, there was a lot of work behind the scenes that many people probably didn’t see. The Book Swap gave students the chance to share stories, discover new books and hopefully find something they wanted to take home and read. We really appreciate everything they both did to make it possible.
We also want to give a massive thank you to Ms Gray for supporting our ideas and, more importantly, helping us actually make them happen. It’s one thing to have an idea, but it’s another thing to have someone who listens to those ideas, encourages them and helps turn them into reality. Your support throughout the planning and preparation for Book Week has meant so much to us, and we genuinely appreciate the trust you placed in us.
