Prayer to St Monica
Loving God,
we thank you for the life and witness of St Monica,
a woman of deep faith, patience and perseverance.
Help us to follow her example
when life feels difficult or uncertain.
Teach us to remain hopeful,
to trust in your plan,
and to never give up on those we love.
Give us the strength to be patient with ourselves and others,
the courage to keep praying,
and the compassion to support those who are struggling.
St Monica, pray for us
and remind us that love, faith and perseverance
can bring hope even in the most challenging times.
Amen.
A Reflection on St Monica
On 27 August, we celebrated the feast of St Monica, a woman remembered for her extraordinary faith, patience and perseverance. As the mother of St Augustine, Monica spent many years praying for her son and trusting in God, even when the path ahead seemed uncertain.
St Monica reminds us that change and growth often take time. She teaches us the importance of remaining hopeful, continuing to pray and never giving up on the people we love. Her life is also a reminder that we cannot always control the choices or journeys of others, but we can continue to offer them love, encouragement and a sense of hope.
For our students, St Monica offers a powerful example of resilience. She encourages us to be patient with ourselves and others, to trust the process of growth, and to believe that small acts of faith, compassion and perseverance can make a lasting difference.
May St Monica inspire us to remain hopeful, even when the answers do not come quickly, and to keep supporting one another with patience, love and faith.
