High School Netball Championships

Last week, selected students from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 represented the College at the Netball Tasmania High School Netball Championships. Teams played multiple shortened matches, consisting of two eight-minute halves, in a round-robin format.

The Year 7/8 team competed on Tuesday and enjoyed a strong 19–3 win against Huonville. However, some close, nail biting losses against Mackillop Red (8–10) and Kingston High (8–11) ultimately cost the team an opportunity to contest the final. Thanks to Dominic, who agreed to play a friendly game to finish off an enjoyable day.

It was a similar scenario for the Year 9/10 team on Thursday. With a huge draw of seven back to back games, the players knew they were in for a tough day. Narrow losses to Mackillop (13–16), Kingston High (10–11) and Sacred Heart (11–13) demonstrated just how small the margins were in missing out on a place in the final.

The team enjoyed well deserved wins against Dominic (16–6), Calvin (13–11) and Hobart City (12-9). The final match against St Aloysius became a must win game and, while the team stayed with their opponents throughout the first half, they eventually fell to defeat, 10–18, against the team that went on to win the championships.

All students who participated are to be congratulated on their effort, determination and sportsmanship throughout what was a very tough and competitive tournament.

Play Cricket Visit

Students in Prep, Year 2, 3 and 4, were treated to a visit from Cricket Tasmania / Hobart Hurricanes staff on Tuesday last week, as part of Play Cricket month.   

Students participated in four different cricket activities, including batting, throwing and catching games. There were lots of smiles and excitement as students developed their cricket skills and enjoyed trying the different activities. 

Cricket Tasmania have Girls Colour Blast programs scheduled for the October School holidays and would love students to take part if they enjoyed the sessions at school.  A flyer is attached.  

Year 9/10 Football 

The final Year 9/10 Football match was played on Tuesday afternoon in blustery conditions at Lower Queenborough.  It was a hard fought battle, with St Mary’s coming away with the win 2.6.18 to 6.8.44.  Well done to students on their commitment to the shorter roster, and their sportsmanship and endeavour during games.  Coach Chapman has been proud of the team’s effort and resilience.

Hurricanes All-Girls Colour Blast

Get ready for an unforgettable day packed with action, laughter and excitement. Open to girls of all experience levels, enjoy a mix of traditional and non-traditional cricket activities, with plenty of colourful surprises and water-filled fun along the way!

When: Wednesday 14 October and Friday 16 October, Where: Cornelian Bay

Time: 10.00am - 12.00pm each day

Ages: 5-12 years
