Stepping into KEEP Mathematics Program

Below is an article written by Nelson, Pony, Rebecca, Chloe and Oscar in Year 6 about their participation in the Stepping into KEEP Mathematics Program at Keysborough Secondary College.

We were excited to be selected to participate in the Stepping into KEEP Mathematics Program at Keysborough Secondary College. This extension program is designed for students who enjoy Mathematics and are looking for an extra challenge.

Over several weeks, we have taken part in online and face-to-face sessions led by Ms. Tran. She is an expert Mathematics teacher at Keysborough Secondary College. During these sessions, we explored challenging mathematical problems, worked collaboratively with other students, and developed new problem-solving strategies.

One of the highlights of the program was travelling to the Banksia Campus at Keysborough Secondary College. It was exciting to experience a secondary school environment and meet students from other schools who shared our interest in Mathematics. We enjoyed working together to solve complex tasks and participated in an algebra based Kahoot!, which we won.

The activities challenged us to step outside our comfort zones and approach problems in different ways. We learned that there is often more than one strategy for solving a problem and that perseverance is an important part of learning.

The Stepping into KEEP program has helped us build our confidence, strengthen our mathematical skills, and develop a deeper appreciation for Mathematics. We have really enjoyed the opportunity to participate and would like to thank Keysborough Secondary College and Ms. Tran for providing such an engaging and rewarding experience.
