Teaching and Learning Update

Staff Professional Learning

On Friday 5th June, staff participated in an informative Curriculum Day led by Emma Gordon Williams, with a focus on strengthening our understanding of Tier 2 within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

Emma guided staff through the key principles of Tier 2, with particular emphasis on how to identify students who may require additional support in both learning and wellbeing. Staff explored the use of data to recognise patterns and indicators that suggest a student may benefit from targeted interventions beyond the universal (Tier 1) level.

A significant part of the day was dedicated to unpacking what Tier 2 supports can look like in practice. This included discussion around small group instruction, targeted wellbeing programs, and structured interventions designed to meet specific student needs while remaining responsive and flexible.

Learning space teams were then provided with dedicated time to analyse their own cohort data. Using this data, staff identified students who may require Tier 2 supports and engaged in collaborative discussions to determine appropriate strategies and interventions. Importantly, these supports were documented in team planning to ensure consistency, clarity, and ongoing monitoring of student progress.

The day was a valuable opportunity for staff to deepen their understanding of MTSS and to strengthen our collective approach to supporting every student’s learning and wellbeing journey.
