Art Room Update – Term Highlights
It has been a wonderful term of creativity and exploration in the Art Room. Students across all year levels have been inspired by artists, cultures, nature and personal experiences while developing their artistic skills through a variety of materials and techniques.
Foundation students have been exploring the vibrant artwork of Indigenous artist Dr Bronwyn Bancroft. Inspired by her use of colour, pattern and shape, students created their own artworks using a range of colourful shapes and designs. Through these activities, students developed their understanding of visual elements while building confidence in expressing ideas through art and different materials.
Years 1/2 students have been learning about a range of contemporary and historical Indigenous artists whose work explores connection to Country and culture. Through painting, oil pastels and collage, students investigated themes of self-expression and map-making, creating artworks that reflected places that are important to them and stories connected to those places.
Years 3/4 students have enjoyed working across both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms this term. Students created impressive fibre animal sculptures, exploring texture, form and construction techniques. They also produced outstanding bird portraits inspired by the distinctive styles of Peter Cromer and Anna Batesman, using colour, pattern and careful observation to create vibrant artworks.
Years 5/6 students have been experimenting with gelli plate printing, using plants collected from our beautiful school gardens to create unique layered prints. Following their camp experience at Sovereign Hill, students also developed expressive Gold Rush portraits, drawing on their historical learning to create character-rich artworks that captured the spirit of the era.
