Wellbeing and Inclusion Update

Lunchtime Clubs and Play Opportunities
At Athol Road Primary School, we know that lunchtime is an important opportunity for students to connect with others, develop new skills and enjoy being active outdoors. While many students thrive in the busy playground environment, we also recognise that being outside for an extended period can sometimes be challenging for students who prefer quieter activities, need additional support with social interactions, or enjoy engaging in more structured experiences.
To support the diverse needs and interests of our students, we offer a range of lunchtime clubs and activities throughout the year. These opportunities may change from term to term, providing students with new experiences and ways to connect with others.
Gardening Club
Our Gardening Club, led by Mr Hunter, gives students the opportunity to connect with nature while caring for our school garden. Students take part in a range of gardening activities including planting seedlings, watering garden beds, harvesting produce, learning about seasonal plants and helping maintain a thriving and productive garden space. Along the way, students extend their understanding of sustainability, healthy food production and environmental responsibility. Gardening Club provides a calm and engaging outdoor environment where students can learn new skills, work collaboratively and take pride in watching the garden grow throughout the term.
Soccer Club
Mr Calvett runs our Soccer Club, where students can learn and practise a range of soccer skills before putting them into action through fun games and activities. As our Inter School Soccer Coach, Mr Calvett has achieved great success with our school team and enjoys sharing his passion for the sport with students. Soccer Club provides a fun, inclusive environment where students can build confidence, develop teamwork skills and enjoy being active with their peers.
Calm Cove
The Calm Cove provides students with a quieter outdoor option during lunchtime. Students are selected to attend when they would benefit from additional support with play, communication, turn-taking, problem-solving and cooperative skills. The Calm Cove offers a range of engaging activities designed to encourage social connection and positive interactions in a supportive environment. This week, students particularly enjoyed creating clay masterpieces together!
(L-R: Monster, Unicorn, purple Mike Wazowski, axolotl, Sandwich, Mike Wazowski, Ice cream, and axolotl).
We look forward to sharing more of our lunchtime clubs and activities throughout the year as we continue to create opportunities for every student to connect, participate and belong.
Connected, supported, thriving.
