LOTE

This fortnight, students have continued developing their Indonesian language skills through our regular topics. Prep students have been learning about jungle animals, Years 1 and 2 have been building simple sentences based on a short text, Years 3 and 4 have been exploring leisure activities, and Years 5 and 6 have been learning about sports.

Alongside our language learning, students have been celebrating Indonesian Independence Day, learning about the significance of the red and white flag, a traditional song performed during the celebrations, and some of the fun games enjoyed by communities across Indonesia. Students have also explored the history leading up to Indonesian independence.

We have also acknowledged International Orangutan Day, learning about these critically endangered animals and the importance of protecting their rainforest habitat. Students have considered some of the challenges facing orangutans and the ways people can help conserve these incredible animals and their environment.

Performing Arts

Our much-anticipated Production of Disney’s 'Alice in Wonderland Jr.' is only a few days away, and we are incredibly excited to see our students take to the stage!

This Production has been a huge team effort, and the students and staff have worked incredibly hard over the past few months to bring the show together. From learning songs and choreography to memorising lines, creating costumes and props, and taking on backstage and technical roles, there has been an enormous amount of work happening behind the scenes.

A very special thank you to all of our parents and carers who have supported their children at home by helping them practise their lines, songs, and choreography. Your encouragement and support have made such a difference and have helped our students feel prepared and confident.

We are so proud of every student involved and cannot wait to celebrate their hard work with our school community. The students are very excited to put on this show!

Physical Education

We have continued working on teamwork in the PE space over the last few weeks.

Prep - Year 2

Prep to Year 2 have enjoyed working as a team to use gym mats in order to cross a ‘shark infested ocean’, moving from one island to another. We also continued tweaking the way we play Hungry Hippos to develop our understanding of following the rules and fair play.

Year 3 - Year 6

Years 3 to Year 6 have built on the school values focus of previous weeks, applying them to team challenges and games. It has been so pleasing to see the improvement in students’ team work skills as they apply the school values to our cooperative games.

STEAM

Prep

Prep students explored Indigenous sky stories, learning about the Emu in the Sky and how Aboriginal Peoples have observed the night sky for thousands of years. They also investigated stars, discovered patterns in the night sky, and created beautiful artworks inspired by constellations and star-filled skies.

Year 1/2

Students investigated the changing appearance of the Moon before learning about stars and constellations. They explored how people have used star patterns to navigate and tell stories throughout history and created textured Moon artworks and striking constellation scratch-art inspired by their scientific investigations.

Year 3/4

Engineering teams began bringing their ideas to life by constructing prototype space colony structures using recycled materials. Students worked collaboratively to solve engineering challenges, tested construction techniques, and refined their designs while learning that successful engineers continually improve their ideas through teamwork and problem-solving.

Year 5/6

Students explored weathering, erosion, and the formation of rocks through practical investigations before considering how these natural processes shape Earth's surface. They compared scientific explanations with Indigenous understandings of Country while continuing to build their Earth and Space knowledge.
