Around Our Level

We would like to warmly welcome Ms Ella Van Roosmalen, who will be completing her teaching placement in Prep B over the next three weeks. Ella is studying a Bachelor of Early Childhood at Deakin University, and she is very excited to be working with our students.

In Literacy, we have been learning about nasalised 'a’ and short ‘i’ sounds in words. Our focus words have been 'are', 'was', 'you', 'have', and 'what'. Students have been writing simple recounts about their weekend.

In Comprehension, we have been using mentor texts, such as ‘Grandpa's Shoes’, ‘Pocket Dogs’, ‘Pete the Sheep’, and ‘Shoes from Grandpa’, to make predictions, make connections to real life experiences, and making inferences.

In Maths, we have been learning about numbers to 20, addition, and this week, subtraction. Students have been using number lines, number bonds, and number trackers to solve addition and subtraction equations.

Last Monday, we celebrated the learning successes and achievements of some of our Prep students. Firstly, for learning all their letters and sounds. Secondly, for learning all their 6 lists of ‘heart words’. We also have some students who are very close to getting their awards at the next assembly. Keep working hard, we are proud of your achievements.

In Integrated Studies, we coloured in the Aboriginal flag and Torres Strait Island flags to display in our classrooms.

The Preps have been busy and working hard on their Production performances of ‘In a World of My Own’ and ‘Golden Afternoon’.  The whole school came together for a full dress rehearsal run through, where students also had their photos taken. These photos can be purchased on the night of Production. Both cast 1 and cast 2 completed their songs, including the finale, and were able to watch their peers perform. It certainly is looking amazing, and we can’t wait to showcase our talents at the George Wood Performing Arts Centre next week.

A big thank you to our wonderful Parents' Association for organising the Winter Wonderland Disco last Friday, and to all our parent volunteers who assisted in the canteen. Our Preps said, ‘It was the best day ever!!!!!’
