Year 1 & 2

Over the past two weeks, students explored freshwater and saltwater environments in Australia. They identified places, such as rivers, lakes, oceans, and the Great Barrier Reef, on maps. They discussed the differences between freshwater and saltwater. Students also learned about the importance of caring for our water environments.

During Literacy lessons, students have continued their UFLI, Guided Reading, and handwriting sessions. We have been researching zoo animals in preparation for the forthcoming excursion. Students initially researched a rainforest animal, and now have an opportunity to study an animal of their choice. We have also continued reading some of the Book Week books, such as 'Bob and Dob' and 'If I Were a Giant'. 

In Wellbeing, students worked on different relaxation and calming strategies to help manage feelings of stress. They explored ways to make new friends and considered how kindness, communication, and supportive actions can help build positive and closer friendships. Students also created thoughtful gifts to show appreciation for the special people in their lives in preparation for Fathers Day.

For Maths lessons, students have been exploring Data and Graphs. They have used supersized resources to create a class bar graph. Students have practised this skill, creating their own data displays, including bar graphs, picture graphs, and dot plots, in their Maths books. They have interpreted information from these graphs. Year 2 students have learned to use Google Sheets on their Chromebooks to create a table and bar graph.
