Cocktail Fundraiser and Auction | Saturday 12 September

Dress bright, gather your friends and join us at our Cocktail Function and Auction, to be held at the College on Saturday 12 September. 

This is your chance to bring out your most colourful pieces – the more vibrant patterns, sequins and sparkle, the better! 

Parents, carers, friends and alumni of the College are warmly invited to enjoy an evening of drinks, canapés, live jazz from Matthew Ives and his Big Band, and a showcase of standout items featured in our live auction.

Funds raised on the night – through ticket sales and auction proceeds – will directly support our future building works, including the Presentation Arts Precinct, a new state‑of‑the‑art visual arts space. Named in honour of the generous women celebrating 250 years of the Presentation Order, this precinct will be a glowing addition to our Arts Program.

The auction will run online from 1–12 September, with a select number of items reopening for live bidding on the night. 

We are deeply grateful for your generosity and support and extend a heartfelt thank you to all our amazing auction donors so far. There are some fabulous prizes up for grabs!

2026 Book Week is a Symphony of Stories! 

The 2026 Children's Book Week theme is 'Symphony of Stories'. 

Book Week is just around the corner, and we're excited to celebrate from Monday 24 August to Friday 28 August in Week 5. 

Across the Junior and Senior Schools, students will enjoy a colourful mix of activities, from colouring-in competitions, bookmark and badge design challenges, House debates and flash-fiction writing, to our much-loved pet-reading photo competition, Drop Everything and Read and a secret pop‑up event for our younger book‑lovers – you heard it here first!

And of course, the highlight for many: our Book Character Dress-Up Parade!

Important information for families:

Our Kinder–Year 6 Book Character Dress-Up Parade will take place on Wednesday 26 August in the Nagle Centre, from 

1.45pm–3.00pm.

Parents, carers and friends are warmly invited to join us for the Junior School parade and cheer on our students and staff. It's always a joyful celebration of creativity, reading and community spirit!

Road safety reminder: School pick-up and drop-off 

A friendly reminder to parents, carers and visitors to please follow all parking signage and requirements around the College, particularly during drop-off and pick-up times.

To help keep children and families safe: 

• Please leave driveways clear so our neighbours can access their properties.
• Please also keep our driveways clear, including the Brisbane Street entrance to the College and the entrance to our staff carpark near the Nagle Centre.  
• Please use the designated Hug and Go zone on Harrington Street or park a little further away and walk. 
• Please do not double park when dropping students off.
• Please do not park or stop in a No Stopping zone or in a bus zone. 
• Please avoid U-turns, three-point turns or reversing your vehicle in a school zone. 
• Always use the pedestrian lights when crossing the road. 
• Be patient of other vehicles, drive slow and stay alert at all times. 

Hobart City Council parking attendants regularly patrol the area and may issue infringement notices where appropriate.

Father's Day Breakfast | Save the date

We're delighted to be hosting our annual Father's Day Breakfast at the College on Wednesday 2 September! 

All SMC fathers and father‑figures are warmly invited to join their children for complimentary breakfast pies, granola and yoghurt, coffee, hot chocolate and juice in the Nagle Centre from 7.30am.

Course Confirmation Sessions | Years 10 and 11

Our Course Confirmation Sessions for students currently in Years 10 and 11 will take place on Thursday 20 August from 4.00pm to 7.00pm in the Student Resource Centre. 

Students and their parents/carers are welcome to attend at any time during this window to meet with staff member and confirm course selections for 2027. 

Each meeting will take around 10 minutes and provides an opportunity to ask questions, discuss subject choices and make any final adjustments before selections are submitted. 

Thank you for taking the time to attend this important event and for your ongoing support as we plan and prepare for the 2027 school year. 

Junior School Athletics Carnival | Parent and carer volunteers needed! 

The Junior School Athletics Carnival is fast approaching, taking place on Friday 4 September at the Domain Athletic Centre. Events will begin at 9.30am, and a full program will be shared with families closer to the day. 

We are currently seeking parent and carer volunteers to help make the event a success. Our carnivals rely on the generous support of our school community, and we simply couldn't run the day without your support. 

If you hold a current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) and are available to lend a hand – whether for a few hours or the whole day, we would be incredibly grateful for your involvement.
