What a wonderful evening of connection, creativity and family bonding at our Fathers & Sons Painting Night held on Thursday the 20th of August. Family members worked together to paint a house as a symbol of what makes a strong and happy family. Each part of the house represented something important — the foundation represented teamwork, the walls communication, the windows listening, the door being welcoming, the roof safety, and the heart love and care.

Families then created Warli people to represent the people who make up their house. Some families even wrote special messages in their first language, making their artwork even more meaningful. It was wonderful to hear stories from our fathers, with some sharing that it had been 40 years since they had last picked up a paintbrush, while for others, it was their very first time painting at all! It was a beautiful opportunity for families to slow down, create together and strengthen their connections. Thank you to our dads that made the time to come along with their sons. Such a special time!

Our women have also been busy learning and exploring as part of their "Ready for Hospitality" journey. They travelled by train to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to visit the Fine Food Australia Expo. For many, this was an exciting opportunity to navigate the city and public transport independently. The women worked together to read train maps, find their way around the city and successfully make their way to the event. Once there, they explored new food products, technologies and innovations used in the hospitality and restaurant industry and had the opportunity to sample a wide range of different foods. Our women are doing an amazing job learning about food handling, preparation and the world of hospitality. We are so proud of their confidence, skills and willingness to learn!

A reminder that our Women’s Health Forum is happening next Thursday, 10th September, at Dandenong South Primary School, starting at 9:45am. There will be a bus available for families who would like to attend, so please let me know if you would like to come and I can reserve you a spot. We will have multiple community partners joining us, providing opportunities to learn more about women’s health, ask questions, connect with local services and enjoy a fun day together. We would love to see you there!
