Saplings for September

On Thursday, 17 September, students, parents and staff gathered for a tree planting afternoon, organised by Parent Voice and the Sustainability Stewards Team.
The event provided an opportunity for members of our College community to come together and make a positive contribution to our environment. Working side by side, participants planted seedlings that will help create a greener and more biodiverse campus for future generations of students.
Grounded in the message of Laudato Si', the afternoon served as a reminder that caring for creation is a shared responsibility. The planting also formed part of our contribution to the Global Tree Planting Campaign in the lead-up to World Youth Day 2027, connecting our local actions at Lumen Christi College with a wider international commitment to care for our common home.
A special moment during the afternoon was the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate our 2026 Stewardship Captains Teliah and Hadiya. Throughout the year, these student leaders have played a significant role in advancing sustainability initiatives across the College and helping to build a culture of environmental stewardship. In recognition of their contribution, Teliah and Hadiya each planted a larger tree, accompanied by a commemorative sign. These trees will serve as a lasting reminder of the positive change they helped create and the legacy they leave for future generations of students and the College community.
We thank everyone who participated in the afternoon and contributed to its success. Together, we are helping to grow a more sustainable future for our College.
