HaSS BusinessBites Market Day

On Wednesday, 9 September and Monday 14 September, our two BusinessBites classes proudly hosted their annual Market Day stalls, showcasing the entrepreneurial skills they have developed.

The Year 10 BusinessBites elective introduces students to the fundamentals of starting and operating a business. During Term 3, students are challenged to create and run their own mini business. This involves developing a business concept, choosing a business name, completing a business plan, preparing costings, creating promotional materials, producing products, and managing all aspects of their market stall.

This year, students offered an impressive range of food and beverages, including homemade brownies, cookies, dessert cups, donuts, chicken skewers, rice and chicken dishes, Coke spiders, loaded fries, hot chips, ice cream sundaes, waffles, and walking tacos.

To launch their ventures, students applied for a capital loan from the College to purchase their initial ingredients and supplies. Many businesses also accepted pre-orders, helping them plan and manage demand effectively. After all expenses were accounted for, profits were donated to charities chosen by the students.

Collectively, this year's Market Days earned approximately $800 for St Vincent de Paul, LifeLink, Catholic Mission, and Caritas.

The Market Day initiative provides students with a valuable opportunity to apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting, building skills in planning, teamwork, problem-solving, financial management, and customer service. Congratulations to all students for their hard work, creativity, and generosity in making this year's event such a success.
