R U OK? Day

On Wednesday, 9 September and Thursday,10 September, our school held a range of activities to recognise and celebrate R U OK? Day.

It was a wonderful couple of days filled with fun, meaningful activities designed to promote wellbeing and encourage conversations about mental health. Students had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities and learn practical ways to look after their own wellbeing. There was something for everyone: from self-care activities, Pilates and morning tea to live music, as well as organisations sharing information about mental health and the different support services available.

Days like this remind me of how important it is to pay attention to our own wellbeing, but also to look out for the people around us. Sometimes we are busy, tired, overwhelmed, or simply caught up in everything we have going on, and there can be a million reasons why we might not stop to check in with someone and ask, “Are you OK?”

Yet, a simple question or a small gesture can make a meaningful difference. It is a simple way of showing care and kindness to the people around us. And perhaps one of the most important messages of R U OK? Day is that checking in with others shouldn’t be something we do only on one day of the year. It is something we can do every day, a small act of care and love for others that can make a difference in someone else’s life.
