Chappy Chats

The Horsham College Chaplaincy Committee are hitting the kitchen in preparation for a celebration afternoon tea. Korus Connect – employer of our chaplain – is marking 80 years of operation so the current Chaplaincy Committee is pulling out all the stops to thank volunteer supporters – past and present.
Formed in 1988, the Horsham College Chaplaincy Committee has seen more than 60 volunteers serve time on the committee, sustaining the role of chaplain through monthly meetings and fundraising events.
Over the years there have been seven chaplains, including John Mathes, Alan Corby, Justin Van Rossen, Susie Penny, Kate Polack, Greg McKinnon and our current chaplain, Yolande Grosser. Fundraising events have included golf days, bike-a-thons, lolly runs, international dinners, fashion parades and back in 1998 there was even a planned visit by the Australian Boys Choir! In the past decade, fundraising has become streamlined, with the very popular bi-annual Chaplaincy Book Fair which serves the community well by recycling pre-loved books.
Financial support from local church members and congregations has been vital to the survival of this service which provides students with food, clothing, connection through groups and events and one-on-one consultations that foster a sense of belonging. Creative Crochet, All Faith Support, Brekky Hub, Harmony Week Fiesta, Team Strengths Day, RUOK? Day Wellbeing Expo and World Kindness Day are some of the occasions Horsham College students enjoy which are organised by the chaplain.
New committee members are always welcome, and all involved with the chaplaincy program past and present are encouraged to respond to this invitation to the Sunday August 31st celebration.
