LCS FUN RUN / CROSS COUNTRY
Well done to our students who participated in the recently held Fun Run / Cross Country. It was a great day had by all!
We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who took part in the Fun Run fundraiser - with your generous support, we are pleased to announce that we raised $6513.00! Fun Run prizes will be here soon!
Good luck to our students who are competing at the Interschool Cross Country event in Moama today. We know you will do yourselves proud! Go Locky!
This fortnight the P-2 have began to learn about the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating (AGHE). They discussed and classified various foods into where they fit on the plate. Sometimes foods were not on the plate as these are often high in sugar, salt and fat and are known as processed foods (cakes, lollies, ice cream). Students then explored some of our healthy foods by making fruit and vegetable kebabs. Yummy…
In the 3/4 area students finished off their Water Transport Systems (WTS) and tested them in the school vegetable garden. Students were able to identify and adjust their models to improve their design. We then begain to explore foods and their importance. Students classfied and evaluated the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating (AGHE) and used this to develop a smoothie recepie, which they will make the following week.
In the 5/6 area students began to look at food wastage and sustainable practices. They used data from Oz-harvest to undertake an investigation into their own food wastage. They were then asked to come up with sustainable practices to prevent this food from spoiling, like making a recipe, not buying as much food, feeding the scraps to animals or creating a compost bin.
NEWS FROM THE ART ROOM
At the beginning of term all students spent some time creating artworks for their mums and special people in their lives. The students put a lot of thought into creating them and we hope you all enjoyed receiving your heart posters (Prep - 2 children) and coasters (3 - 6 children).
In the past fortnight the Prep - 2 students have continued to explore the theme of space and have enjoyed creating planet Earth prints, decorating their own planet and making some awesome woowrap aliens.
Grade 3-4 students have made their own windsocks and are now working on a poster to be entered into the National Water Week competition. All students who enter are in the running to win individual prizes, along with the chance to also win the school an educational gift pack to the value of $250. The theme is "Be A Water Hero" and there has been lots of discussion about the ways we can all help to be a water hero and save water. Ideas include taking short showers, not leaving the tap running while we brush our teeth, catching water in a bucket in the shower and using it to water our plants and using water tanks on our properties to catch rainwater. We look forward to completing our posters next week and then waiting patiently until October to find out if any of our students come away with a prize!
The 5/6 students have started to learn about Salvador Dali and last week enjoyed taking photos of each other to incorporate in a surrealistic piece of artwork. This week they completed their creations and it was wonderful to see so many different ideas on display!
