Education Week Celebrations- you are invited!
Please join us on Friday May 22nd to help celebrate Education Week. This year we will be holding lunchtime activities for our students and their special visitors to enjoy, along with a sausage sizzle lunch. The fun kicks off at 1pm and will culminate with our whole school assembly at 2.30pm (please note the earlier start time for this week) .
Parking, Drop off and Pick Up Areas
As you can all appreciate we need to ensure the safety of our students at all times and when we mix traffic and small children, we need to put additional measures in place.
Can we please ask all families to ensure that they do not enter or exit the school grounds at any time via the Hopetoun St gate (this is for staff access only).
For those needing to park within school grounds for drop off, pick up or visiting you are to park in the main car park off Forrest St (please do not drop off where the buses enter and exit).
Students and parents can use the pedestrian gate at Burns St (closest to the pre-school) if walking or riding.
No vehicles should be moving within the school grounds during the day (trades people and those with pre-arranged access are exempt).
Your cooperation with this very important request is appreciated.
Pupil Free Day
A reminder that Friday June 5th is a pupil free day. Teachers will take this day to complete mid-year assessment tasks, upload student data, compile student reports and prepare for Parent/Teacher Interviews.
Theircare will be open from 7:00am – 6:00pm, provided we have a minimum of 5 students booked in for the day.
Please note there are only 15 places available.
If you would like your child to attend, we encourage you to book online as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

Our Education Support Staff are Awesome
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the official Education Support Staff appreciation day. Of course, here at LCS we appreciate the hard work and dedication of our Business Manager and Classroom Support Staff every minute of every day.
On Tuesday we held a special staff morning tea to say thank you for all that they do for us.
To Lisa L, Sheree, Phoebe, Tammy, Ali, Jane, Fiona and Tracey, we see everything that your do for our students, staff and families, not just in class but in and around the school. Thank you does not seem enough.
TwistED Science
On Monday we had some of our students from Years 1-6 attend a 90 minute science session facilitated by two teachers from TwistEd Science. This is part of the Victorian High Abilities Program and we were very fortunate to have been offered a limited number of places.
Students in Years 1-3 attended a workshop entitled Junior Entomology where they looked at the wonderful world of bugs. Our students in Years 4-6 participated in a Chemistry workshop. We hope that in the future we can be offered more opportunities such as this that we can extend to more and more of our students to extend their learning.
New Early Learning Victoria centre opening in 2028
Dear school community,
The Minister for Children recently announced that the Victorian Government will build a new Early Learning Victoria centre next door to our school and open in 2028.
The centre will help meet local demand for kindergarten and childcare places in our community. It is one of the 50 government-owned and operated Early Learning Victoria centres to be delivered across the state as part of the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reform. This reform also includes Free Kinder, the transitioning of Four-Year-Old Kindergarten to Pre-Prep and the continued roll-out of Three-Year-Old Kindergarten.
The new Early Learning Victoria centre will provide quality education and care for children from 6 weeks of age to the commencement of primary school, providing long day care and integrated Three- and Four-Year-Old Kindergarten programs. The centre will also have additional space for child and family services such as maternal and child health.
Planning and design for the new centre has begun and representatives from the school will play a key role in this process. We look forward to sharing updates as they become available.
The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) will oversee construction works. We’re mindful of any impact construction might have on our community, and we’ll work with the VSBA to minimise this.
The centre will be operated by Early Learning Victoria, an organisation established within the Victorian Department of Education to operate the 50 government-owned and operated centres. They will manage all enrolment, staffing and program enquiries.

Boys To The Bush
This program continues for ten of our boys from Years 4-6. The boys have attended three full day sessions (one day per week) so far, with two weeks remaining. Activities so far have included community service work, visits to Fit-Mob, Kennaugh's Garden Centre, P&D Trusses, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Bamawm Fire Station and Bunnings. All activities have been met with rave reviews and the boys are learning a lot about the organisations and services that are available in our community as well as how to show respect and ow to be engaged in the community in which they live.
School Council
Our next meeting will be held at 6pm at the school on Tuesday May 19th. Councillors are reminded to let myself or Lisa Lind know if you are unable to attend.
That's all for this week, Lisa Duffy
