Secondary Science
Year 10 Flame Tests
Students in Year 10 science are currently studying their Chemistry unit. They have been investigating the properties of different elements and how this relates to their location in the Periodic Table.

Students are enjoying participating in many experiments. One of these experiments involved students investigating different elements by conducting flame tests to see the different bright colours that metals create when heated. This is, in fact, the basis of fireworks. Students learnt that the colours created by fireworks are formed from excited electrons in the atom of each metal. The energy emitted by these electrons is different for each metal and corresponds to a particular colour of light.
