The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge will close on Friday 4th September. We currently have 79 students participating, and so far they have read a combined 1,000 books! Those who successfully complete the Challenge will receive a pizza lunch and go into a prize draw to win a Dymocks gift voucher. 

Recruiting for Year 8 Readers’ Cup will begin shortly. Each class from Year 8 will form a team of 4 students and read the following books: Bite risk by S.J. Wills, The road to winter by Mark Smith, and Skeleton Creek by Patrick Carman.

Treasure Island

A humorous, honest and 

Treasure Island is one of the most famous pirate stories of all time, full of adventure, danger, fantastic villains, and exotic locations.

Young Jim Hawkins lives in a lodging house with his mother and meets a strange old man called Billy Bones, who dies after staying with them for a few months. Among Bones’ few possessions is a mysterious map leading to fabulous treasure on an unchartered island. Filled with dreams of becoming rich, Jim charts a ship called Hispaniola with the help of Squire Trelawny and Dr Livesey to go in search of the island. Making up the part of the crew as ship’s cook is a friendly man called John Silver, who has one wooden leg and a pet parrot.

During the voyage Jim learns that pirates have infiltrated the Hispaniola’s crew and are aware of the ships’ destination. Facing great danger, and unsure who to trust, Jim must hold onto his courage if he is to survive Treasure Island and make it back home.

Treasure Island is a very satisfying and rewarding read, full of intriguing characters and plenty of action. If you like pirates or action-adventure stories, this could certainly be for you!
