Music News
Senior Band and Jazz Syndicate had an amazing trip to Sydney to perform at the Australian Pacific Music Festival in the last week of the school holidays. We performed at the Sydney Opera House, Chatswood Concourse, the Sydney Conservatorium and the Darling Harbour’s Maritime Museum. Firstly, and most importantly, thanks to every single student who came on the trip. Whether it was lining up for the performance of a lifetime backstage at the Opera House, racing around IKEA, or cheering on their NRL team on the rooftop terrace at our accommodation, students enthusiastically threw themselves into every opportunity and activity, and were a wonderful group of students to spend time with. We especially enjoyed our rehearsal exchange with the Taipei Fuhsing Symphonic Band, to see how they work and rehearse was an amazing experience.
Many thanks to Music support for their financial contribution to the trip, to John McKenzie for support with airport transfers, and to Amanda Linton, Emma Moffatt and parent Sandy Speare, who gave up a week of their holidays to make the trip such an enjoyable one for all. We’d also like to thank all the families who made the trip to Sydney to cheer us on, it was fabulous to hear cheers for Belmont coming from the audience at our performances! Belmont high School was the only Victorian school represented at the festival, which included bands from across Australia, the US, Chile, New Zealand and Taiwan. Both Bands received Silver Awards for their adjudicated performances, a result to be proud of!

VET at The Corner Hotel - The Push
VET music year 1 students travelled to Melbourne last Tuesday to take part in the Push’s music industry expo at the iconic Corner Hotel in Richmond. Our own Rosie Fuentes scored a highly sought after spot as one of the hosts for the day, MCing the event and interviewing high profile music industry practitioners in front of a massive crowd. Our students also took centre stage at the open mic session held over the lunch break, performing original songs. So proud of our musicians! Thanks to Ashleigh Hunter for leading this group.
Showcase
Last week’s Showcase was an incredible production, which highlighted the amazing variety of talents among our students. Musicians from the Ensemble program showed their versatility as performers, swapping Oboes and Flutes for dance routines, Tubas and French Horns for Bass and Vocals, and Singit members appearing in anything from Super Trooper to acting roles in many of the Acts.
The House Band was outstanding, a group of young musicians who rose to the challenging task of accompanying singers in a wide variety of styles, seamlessly moving on and off stage, and always being ready to play with style and flair. Huge congratulations to Flynn Willis, Euan Shields, Paige Speare, Malin Speare, William Gladman, Angus Moffatt, Asher Watts, Rabhin O’Keife, Leo Gardiner, Harry Neal and Finn Ibrahim for their professional performance, and to Danniel Smith for all his hard work facilitating and mentoring this great group of musicians. Thanks too to Amanda Linton for FOH support, Emma Moffatt for support with charts and supervision during rehearsals and performances, and Ash Hunter for backstage supervision during both shows.
