Year 2 Echidnas and Platypuses
Year 2 has had a busy and exciting start to Term 3, filled with learning, creativity and community celebrations!
We recently enjoyed celebrating St Helena's Feast Day. On the day the students had a wonderful time designing and creating their own crowns with ways that they can be like St Helena, while learning about the life and legacy of St Helena. It was fantastic to see their creativity and enthusiasm on display.
The Feast Day celebrations were a great success, and our Year 2 stall was a huge hit! Students proudly hosted a variety of arcade-style games that kept students entertained throughout the day with many special prizes. The children demonstrated excellent teamwork, responsibility and positive sportsmanship while running the stall, making it a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved.
In the classroom, we have been learning all about Character Strengths and how understanding them can help us become the best versions of ourselves. Students have explored different strengths and worked on identifying them in others. Through thoughtful discussions and activities, they have been able to explain why they see strengths such as kindness, perseverance, bravery, teamwork and gratitude in their classmates. It has been wonderful to hear students recognising and celebrating the positive qualities that make each member of our class unique and valued.
Year 6 Brolgas and Emus
A Busy and Exciting Term!
It has been another busy and exciting term in Year 6, with our students involved in a wonderful variety of learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum.
In Religious Education, we have been preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation by learning about our chosen Confirmation Saints. Students researched the lives, qualities and contributions of their saints before creating beautiful biography posters and informative movies to share their learning. It has been wonderful to see the thought and creativity that students have put into exploring the people who inspire them in their faith journey.
In Mathematics, our focus has been on angles. Students have been learning to identify, classify and measure different types of angles and have enjoyed taking their learning beyond their books by searching for angles hidden all around our classroom and school environment.
Our HASS learning has focused on economics and business, with students exploring concepts such as consumerism, profit, income and expenses and what is involved in successfully running a business. This learning came to life during our St Helena’s Feast Day ice-cream stall! The stall was a massive joint effort, with all Year 6 students contributing to its preparation and operation. Their teamwork and enthusiasm helped make the stall a fantastic success and provided a valuable real-world connection to our classroom learning.
We have also been learning about the changes that occur in our brains and bodies as we grow older, helping students develop a greater understanding of the transition towards adolescence.
Finally, our Year 6s had a fantastic time representing St Helena’s at the Winter Interschool Carnival. Despite the wet weather, spirits remained high and students embraced the day with enthusiasm, teamwork and plenty of smiles!
It has certainly been a full term so far, and we are very proud of the way our Year 6 students continue to learn, participate and work together.
