Dear Families,

Our Fathers day breakfast was a great success and the students sang "Stand by me" with great aplomb for their fathers.  Thank you to all the special people who joined us today for breakfast and we hope all the Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles and special people have a wonderful Father's Day on Sunday.

Mass was a celebration with all students participating admirably. The students sang and joined in with gusto. Students are becoming familiar with the process of going up to get a blessing and the transition has become a much smoother process for all students.

Wala Connections Dance Workshop

On Monday, our students participated in an engaging First Nations dance workshop led by Wala Connections. Through music, movement and storytelling, students explored how dance can share stories, celebrate culture and strengthen connection to Country. The interactive workshop encouraged everyone to move, create and learn together while developing a deeper appreciation of First Nations culture, language and contemporary dance. It was a joyful and meaningful experience for our students.

The week ahead:

Religious Education: Next week we will be looking at the importance of the words and the meaning behind the sign the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Writing:  Next week, students will begin looking at informative writing. We will discuss what informative writing is and how we use it. Students are going to be writing about Australian sea creatures like green sea turtles and manta rays.

Reading: Next week, the sound we are learning is /yoo/. It is actually 2 sounds /y/ and /oo/ like in boo. But we just say /yoo/. Here, /yoo/ is represented by u-e. The dash means a consonant grapheme sits in the middle of the u and the e. We are also learning to spell this with ue together whichis a less common way to spell /yoo/. 

Example ue words: due, argue, continue, muesli, rescue, Tuesday, value, venue, pursue

Mathematics:  We will continue to examine skip counting and patterns. We are looking at numbers that do not start at zero but still follow a set pattern. 

Integrated Curriculum: We begin to explore puppets using Aesop's fables of The Lion and The Mouse and The Tortoise and the Hare.

Social and Emotional Learning: In Week 9, Students will be learning about R U OK day. We will complete the lesson on the Thursday which is R U OK day. Students can wear a touch of yellow for the day.

Auslan:  Students will review their AUSLAN knowledge in Week 9.

What you can do at home

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.

• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.

• Re-reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.

• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “What do they know?”, “How do you know?” or "Are you sure?"

• A curious question to ask this week could be: What do you notice about the world around you?

Important Classroom Reminders:

• Fidget Toys

  We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. 

  Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. 

  We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.

• Spare clothes/change of clothes

  Please pack spare clothes with a pair of socks and underwear to be placed in the front zip pocket of your child's school bag in case of a toileting accident or i they get muddy during recess and play time. 

• Please ensure that you are labelling all your child's belongings.
