Generations in Jazz 2026

On Friday, 1 May, excitement filled the air as our Senior Vocal Ensemble, Stage Band, and Jazz Combo set off for Mount Gambier to attend the renowned Generations in Jazz Festival. This annual event brings together school ensembles from across the country for a celebration of music, collaboration, and creativity, and this years’ experience proved to be nothing short of inspiring.

With over 100 schools participating, the competition was fierce, and the atmosphere buzzing with talent at every turn. Across the weekend, students not only performed but also had the incredible opportunity to hear from world-class international jazz artists, gaining insight into the depth and diversity of jazz music.

Highlights included standout performances by the Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra, the incredible Belgian trumpeter Bert Joris, and the legendary funk and soul band Tower of Power, whose energy and musicianship left lasting impressions on all who attended. These performances reminded us of the power of live music and the heights that dedication and passion can reach.

Our own ensembles represented the College with distinction. The Stage Band delivered an outstanding performance, earning 3rd place in their division, an achievement that reflects countless hours of rehearsal and commitment. Adding to this success, Ollie Andrews and Adhyan Daga were selected for the division ‘Superband’, an honour that recognises the best instrumentalists across all competing schools in that division. This is an exceptional individual achievement and a testament to their skill and musicality.

Throughout the weekend, our ensembles supported one another, embraced new experiences, and represented our school with pride and professionalism. Beyond the competition results, it was the shared moments of listening, learning, and performing that made the trip so memorable.

We extend our sincere congratulations to all students and staff involved for their achievements and for representing our College with such professionalism. The experience was truly inspiring and will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on their musical journeys.
