Year 8 Christian Studies

Easter Biscuit Bake for Prison Fellowship Australia

During Year 8 Christian Studies, students are required to complete community service, encompassing the ideas of Philippians 2:4: “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

This semester, we completed our community service by supporting Prison Fellowship Australia and participating in their Easter Biscuit Bake. The goal of the Easter Biscuit Bake is to provide homemade biscuits to prisoners across Victoria. This year, they needed 80,000 biscuits.

With the help of Chef Angie, the Year 8 students played their part by making 356 ANZAC biscuits in the school kitchen. This provided biscuits for 35 prisoners, and they have been sent off to join contributions from across the state.

Other students researched Prison Fellowship Australia and reflected on the value of forgiveness, second chances, and God’s grace for all people. As a school, we have another opportunity to support Prison Fellowship Australia through the Year 9 Year of Challenge bike ride, "Cycle to Break the Cycle".

The Easter Biscuit Bake is a mammoth effort and a great opportunity to reflect on the words from Isaiah: “He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…”
